Baking Soda in the Garden

Using Baking Soda in the Garden

Mix 4 teaspoons of Baking Soda in 1 gallon of water. This makes a natural fungicide to use on
roses for black spot fungus and on grapes and vines when fruit first begins to appear.

Mix 1 tablespoon of Baking Soda, 1 gallon of water, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and 1
tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Mix and put into a sprayer, and spray onto flowers and
vegetables especially on zinnias, impatients, squash and cucumbers weekly, apply
when the sun is not too sunny. This recipe is especially helpful on powdery mildew in gardens
that are in high humidity areas.

Mix together 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda, ½ teaspoon of clear ammonia and 1 teaspoon of Epson Salt into a gallon of water and place in sprayer. One gallon will treat 4 rose bushes that have lost their luster. One time application.

Pour Baking Soda onto cracks in a patio walkway, this will kill any small weeds sprouted and prevent new ones from growing.

Mix equal parts of Baking soda and flour and put into a jar. Dust plants such as broccoli, cabbage and kale that are attractive to cabbage worms, when the worms eat the mixture they
will die in a day or so. Repeat as needed.

Sprinkle Baking soda near established tomato plants to make your tomatoes sweeter. It is
Good to test this on just 1 plant to make sure the soil is not already acidic, place once when the tomatoes are about 1 inch in size and again when they are about half grown.

Wet crab grass and pour a heavy dusting of Baking Soda on it, avoiding surrounding grass if you can. The crab grass will die back in a few days.

To test the pH of your soil, wet the soil and take a half of a teaspoon and sprinkle it onto the soil. If the Baking Soda bubbles, your soil is acidic with a pH level under 5.

Sprinkle Baking Soda directly onto slugs, after removing them from your plant, and it will dehydrate and kill them.

Pour ½ teaspoon in a pint mason jar and fill the rest of the jar with water. Pour onto unwanted mushrooms in yard to get rid of them.
