Election EVE

Election EVE

OK folks things seem to be heating up. First Wal-Mart pulled ALL of the guns and ammo from their displays  last week “in case there were rioting going on” then Friday they put most of them back on display except in the worst areas.  Friday a friend in Madison WI reported that the stores downtown were boarding up their windows getting ready for the election riots.  Getting similar reports from other places around the country.  Many police departments have cancelled days off, vacations ect for one to two weeks surrounding the elections.  And then there is this head line–New York City luxury buildings hire armed guards for possible Election Day unrest. Them that can afford that would do well to have that in place all over.  In my area listening to the police calls  there are more and more calls stacked up WAITING for an officer to become available and often when they get dispatched the call is ended with the dispatcher saying “I will send back up as soon as I can”.  Folks that is very concerning to many of us as it shows how over loaded the system is getting.  It IS bad now and I believe that it will get much worse regardless of who ‘wins’ Tuesday. It will be bad at least till spring.

But what are the rest of us going to do?

Top up your vehicle this morning on the way to work OR tonight on the way to get stuff.

It is NOT too late to organize with those who live near you.  You can still go to the big box stores and buy stuff. Get last minute stuff as if it were going to blizzard for the next 1 – 6 months. While you are there get a couple of CB radios antennas, AND cigarette lighter plug in so you can power the CB in your vehicles.  Also get a few of those blister pack FRS/GMRS radios AND if they have them a mobile radio to go with them. IF they have scanner radios get one of those too. Do you have a good AM/FM radio or 2. Gathering information will be vital in the coming months. Charge and check ALL of your communications devices. Make sure they are all programmed correctly and that everyone knows how to use them. Finalize your communications plan. What if the net goes down? Do NOT depend on only your cell phones nor just one or 2 social media sites to communicate with friends / family.

Review your bug out plan and fine tune it. Where are you going? How are you getting there-transportation- AND routes?

Security issues- when things are going on in your area you will need at least one person on FIRE watch 24/7.  They can also monitor the radios.  Should things locally continue down hill you will have to set up stronger security arrangements  3 or more people to do this. One person to stay at the Comms center / command post and the other 2 to patrol or stand guard.  What does that look like for you?  Could need 12 people for this. Which leads to how do you / they get sleep, eat and take care of other bodily functions?  How does the rest of what you have to get done, get done? What is everyone’s work load?

Please let us know about things in your areas and ideas to address your concerns. Reply below.

Prepping count down T minus 14 days

It is now 2 weeks till the election.

What things do YOU need to get finished so that you can limit your trips away from home and hearth the week or so during and after the election? Have you voted yet? Most of our team has. We went in during the early phase.  At the time I am typing this according to the local news about 40% of this state’s population has already voted – one way or the other.

There is still time to get things via Amazon or one of the big box stores. Consider this to be last minute preps OR early shopping for Christmas presents/sticking stuffers.

Top up on the shelf stable food for the winter/spring until your garden starts producing. Order the seeds you need for spring planting now….

Do you have enough water stored ahead AND a plan to get more IF/when the water stops flowing from the pipes? Consider getting a few more SAWYER water filters while you can. A few gallons of plain unscented bleach is a great thing to stock for both water treatment and cleaning.

Do you have enough TP Or another way to clean up after using the toilet? Bidet anyone?

How are you going to stay warm or cook your food if the power going out?

Do you know those who live near you and which ones you can trust?

How are you going to stay in touch with family if the phones go out?

Have you written down your communication and evacuation plans? We do like the Baofeng UV 5R radios for monitoring public service / weather radio systems.

Are you journaling these times to help you and your grand-kids learn from the times?

Top off your fuel tanks in your vehicles each Thursday and get some cash out of the bank to have on hand.

Prepping count down T minus 30 days

Civil unrest some more.

As I write [type] this it is less than 30 days till the 2020 elections.  We have been having a great deal of civil unrest this year [some places 100 days of rioting] along with the health issues of Cov id nineteen aka The human mal-ware program 19 aka THMP19.

The first Presidential ‘debate ‘has happened….   Both sides think their guy won. From where I sit I do not see that anyone’s mind was changed…    Time will tell

Regardless of who ‘wins’ the popular election in November we still have to wait for the electoral college vote this year on December 14th for the real selection of President. And then on January 20th someone will be seated as president.

Between now and November election day things will continue to heat up. When the winner is announced half the people will be happy and want to party and the other half will continue to riot. By the end of January, things will most likely be REALLY bad and wont get better until at least spring 2021 after we get our gardens established for the year.

Many places have reported marked shortages of foods. Part of this was already happening before THMP19 raised its ugly head. Regardless of how or why, there IS a shortage in the stores even today. The shortages are both in amount of food available and the variety of those foods…. I do not see that getting any better until at least summer 2021. so start planning your gardens and order some of your seeds NOW! Consider fruit trees and other perennials.

At least one radio talk show has already announced that they will be staying home election day to avoid down town [Portland OR] during the expected riots.

***WHAT to do between now and the election? FIRST take care of VOTING NOW, so that it is over and done with for you! VOTE for or against whoever you want, but get R done!***

Stock up on medications [talk with your doctor NOW], food, water and toilet paper NOW, while you can! Get at least 2 months ahead so that you will not have to be out the weekend before nor the week of the elections.  Each and EVERY Thursday top off your vehicle fuel supply. Also go to your bank and get the CASH you will need for the next week- cash is king in a disaster. Double check your supplies and provisions. — in the week prior to election day decide what you will need to ride out for at least that week and get it on hand.

Review your emergency plans- particularly SAFETY including fire fighting plans. Review your communication and evacuation plans. DRIVE your planned routes. Finalize your go bags.  Make sure you have back up power systems in place for your phones, computers and radios.

Consider ordering 2 books that will help you get ready EVEN when time is short. 72 hour kits or Bug Out Bags are just the start of being prepared. BOBs and how to make them are covered too along with other concerns like communications, skill sets and team selection concerns, health and safety issues are explored.

In short, this will quickly get you started on the road to preparedness and provident living.   https://www.amazon.com/Ready-Not-Things-WILL-Happen-ebook/dp/B00J6PO0J2/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=Richard+Calton&qid=1601832216&sr=8-4

They also make good Christmas gifts to get your extended family going in prepping.

NEWS flash Portland

NEWS flash I was just alerted to this..

Portland. OR some reports describe it as rioting involving ANTIFA against other groups. IDK, I am not there, BUT it would be best if YOU stay alert and aware of your surroundings. http://www.preparesurvivethrive.us/general-preps/

The Police Bureau attempts to work with all event organizers to establish an environment where community members may safely practice their First Amendment Rights of speech and assembly. The Police Bureau encourages:
Event organizers to communicate with liaison officers so the Police Bureau is aware of the needs and intentions of the groups represented by the respective organizers;

* People who observe suspicious items or activity or are aware of incidents that place a person’s life, safety or property in danger should contact police in person or by calling 9-1-1 if you can; text 9-1-1 if you can’t.
* People near others who are preparing to or in the act of committing criminal behavior are encouraged to separate themselves from the group and notify police; and
* Listen to and adhere to directions provided by the Police Bureau’s public address vehicle. The announcements provide important information about officers’ observations, what actions demonstrators and counter-demonstrators must take and what action the Police Bureau may take.

Civil War coming?

Civil War coming?

Safety wise, things have been going down hill in these United States of America for a long time. In the view of many the 8 years of the last president saw an intentional sabotage of US, a few others still think that was great times. I for one did not think that George W Bush was the best either especially with the Ethanol bill he signed May of 2005 but that can wait for another time….

Trump got into office because MOST Americans wanted real change .. the economy does seem to be better than the last 20 years and there are more jobs available.

America is also more divided now than the last 20 years which is NOT Trump’s fault. He is doing what he was hired to do, drain the swamp. The swamp does not like this. Some that drag their feet and go along to get along and justify their offices and the high pay and benefits don’t like it simply because they are lazy. They don’t like Trump because he IS getting things done in spite of the sloth in Congress. Others are actively resisting draining the swamp because it is exposing their corruption and graft.

Regardless of the above, things are heating up and everyone needs to pay attention to what is going on. We are getting closer to the midterm elections and I expect things to be really bad around that time. There are already riots aka peaceful protests with beatings, arson and vandalism now in some big cities like Portland, OR. Some say this is grass root protests others say it is lead by professional community organizers. I do not know although I do have my thoughts on it. The important point is that regardless of the side you take in it people are getting hurt already. This is going to be worse than after the 2016 elections.

At the bottom of this post is a current story in the news with a link to the original report which prompted this rant.

Get out there and VOTE… I will not comment on which way to vote beyond saying that I will not support anyone or party that threatens me to get my vote.

What to do about things this time around?

If you can vote early or absentee so that you are not near the polls on November 6th DO IT.

Review your communications and emergency plans NOW and get everyone in your family up to speed on things. http://www.preparesurvivethrive.us/comms-part-1/

Double check your supplies and provisions and stock up on what you will need to shelter in place for at least the week of and after the election.

You should always have at least ¾ tank of fuel, but I would top off Monday before the election. IF you have to be out of town you will need to have a paper map with the main route home marked on it and a get home bag.

Get the last minute milk and bread too.

Talk with your pharmacy by the Friday before the election about any refills you are going to need for election week – sometimes they do not have enough on hand and will have to order it in.

This advice is only a bit stronger to prepare than I would give when you know a blizzard or hurricane is on the way to your area.

Where’s the outrage over Hillary’s call for a ‘civil’ war?
By Michael Goodwin
October 9, 2018 | 10:20pm | Updated
Hillary Clinton is still finding ways to denigrate democracy
Kavanaugh’s hearings are a national disaster — and the worst is yet to come

Two events from the last two days stand out. The first came Monday night with President Trump’s forceful yet compassionate speech at the swearing in of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
The president opened with an extraordinary apology on behalf of the country to Kavanaugh and his family “for the terrible pain and suffering” they endured during the historically brutal confirmation process. He said the unfounded allegations violated fairness and “the presumption of innocence.”
Trump also tenderly addressed Kavanaugh’s young daughters, telling them “your father is a great man, a man of decency, character, kindness and courage.”
The event was something of a spike-the-football moment in front of a cheering White House audience and as such was a clever piece of stagecraft, where Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell, Charles Grassley, Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins were saluted.
But the ceremony was much more than mere boosterism. With the eight other Supremes sitting in the front row, Trump aimed to restore dignity to the judiciary at a time when the dirtiest tricks of politics have buried the court in a mountain of mud.
The president is right to worry that the character-assassination attempt on Kavanaugh may turn out to be a seminal moment in American political and cultural history. The ideas that the court is just another political branch and that the presumption of innocence no longer applies if you are on the other team represent a seismic shift in how we look at each other and the nation as a whole.
If those ideas stick, we are in more trouble than we can imagine.
And while Trump has at times unnecessarily contributed to the rancor, he was terrific Monday in trying to repair what Senate Democrats and their media handmaidens tried to destroy.
Which brings me to the second event of note: Hillary Clinton’s statement Tuesday that Democrats “cannot be civil” as long as Republicans hold the White House and Congress.
“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Clinton told CNN. “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”
There you have it — a declaration of war and a license for violence. Where is the media outrage?
Clinton knows we are already in the danger zone when it comes to the political temperature. Her comments, then, are as reckless as bringing a can of gasoline to a bonfire.
She’s stoking trouble to gain a foothold in the 2020 race — and damn the consequences.
Her claim that civility can return when Dems have power is an admission that the ends justify the means.
Then again, she never fails to disappoint. As I wrote Sunday, she has spent the last two years casting doubt on the legitimacy of the Trump presidency because the election didn’t go her way. That makes her guilty of the very thing she found “horrifying” when Trump suggested he might not abide by the results if he thought they were rigged.
“He is denigrating — he is talking down our democracy. And I am appalled that someone who is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that position,” she said in their final debate, in October 2016.
She added, “That is not the way our democracy works.”
But it does work exactly that way when Democrats are denied what they feel entitled to. They should be careful what they wish for.
For if the Kavanaugh experience revealed anything, it is that Trump’s GOP knows how to fight back and win. It is hard to imagine that Kavanaugh would have survived such an onslaught under any other recent Republican candidate or president.
There were so many reasons, and so much media pressure, that it would not have been surprising if a bloc of senators called the allegations a “distraction” and waved a white flag. They didn’t because Trump and Kavanaugh didn’t back down.
Still, there is danger when two sides both think they can outlast the other. Responding to my concern that America might be sleepwalking into a second civil war, a number of readers agreed. Some said they welcomed it.
Curt Doolittle wrote this: “We aren’t sleepwalking into it, we know exactly what we’re doing and why. The hard right and hard left are planning on it, ready for it, and looking for an opportunity.”
He said the pressure has been building and that “the only reason it hasn’t turned hot is the outlier of Trump’s election. If Clinton had won, we’d already be there.”

Do they have the same passion for public safety and good schools? Do they care as much about the unfairness of the tax system?
My fear is that they don’t, and that their intensity about narrow issues is a fig leaf hiding their surrender on broad ones. There are superlatives for that, too.
Disgraceful, cowardice and shameful come to mind.

Trump’s Inauguration

Trump’s Inauguration
Well we have Trumps swearing in is just around the corner. It does not matter if you are glad or sad with the election outcome. It is rather late to order in big stuff. Sooooo at this point some of things you can still do in case the news people are right and that there is ‘disruptive’ behavior at the inauguration and after. From the sounds of some of the undercover reporting they plan to use ‘any means needed’ including property damage and use of chemicals on people.

I would not be surprised at anything that happens the next several days to a few weeks.

I would top off your fuel tanks before the weekend. Many people that I know have gotten a couple of the 5 gallon gas cans and have them stored in an out building or back yard for later need. Others have the empty cans in their vehicle in case they have to get more.

It may be prudent to get last minute perishables such as milk and bread… kinda like before a major snow storm.

Review earlier posts on the riots post election and civil unrest generally.

Pray for the safety of our nation’s leaders, military and emergency workers. Pray for your families and friends.

Post Thanksgiving 2016

Post Thanksgiving 2016

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Many people are breathing a sigh of relief that it is over.

The election in these US of A was over almost 3 weeks ago and a bunch of us were happy AND a bunch of us were pissed. Since then we have been having riots in many cities. Some would say that the ‘peaceful’ protesters aka rioters have a good reason to burn, smash, destroy and injure people, that this should be expanded. Others will say that the police need to crack down HARD on the rioters and the we NEED them to declare Marshal Law and round those thugs up…

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR!

Ask your friends and see how many of them know that the popular vote is NOT the final word, the Electoral College which actually elects the POTUS does not meet until December 19th until they report we do not actually know who the next President will be. It is kinda like waiting for the smoke when a new pope is selected. Basically the fat lady ain’t sung yet!

There are some who say that the rioting is being paid for to disrupt the nation and collapse the country. It sure does look like this could be true, but I do not know. Some are projecting that we are headed for another civil war in America, I do not know, but I hope not. I feel that things are going to get worse before it gets better. ; [

All I do know is that we all need to be ready to shelter in place to be able to ride this out regardless of who gets installed into the white house or who may or may not stay there.

Our reactions should remain peaceful BUT we do need to be ready to defend ourselves and our families. Stay aware of your surroundings and have a plan, discuss all this with your friends and family.

Pray for our country, our families and the people trying to protect our society [ Fire, EMS, police and military]

riots continue

It is Friday after the election on 2016 November 08 the riots are continuing.

We are listening to a radio station [KXL.com if your local station does not carry Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis] in Portland, Oregon in part reporting on the riots there. There are reports of ‘bombs’ going off [flash bangs are a type of hand grenade] and other non fun things happening. While the regular reporting is interesting the commentary from the talk radio show host is by far MORE interesting and informative as he reports on the stuff happening outside the building he is in.

some of the happenings can be boiled down to a bit of advise.

1. IF you can avoid such areas, stay away!
2. If you actually HAVE to be in such areas OR if you just happen to can caught in a riot or other ‘protest’ leave if you can. If you can not leave OR if your job requires you to be in an area, PLAN to be able to SIP [shelter in place]. Food, water, toiletries, bedding, change of clothes for 3 days stored in your office. This WOULD include needed medications and medical devices such as a spare C-PAP [and or oxygen,] they are easy to find at garage sales and your oxygen company can service and set them as back up devices.
3. If you get caught in a ‘protest’ do NOT engage the rioters. Keep moving with your windows rolled up, doors locked and leave the area. If you are walking move to the edges of the protest and then exit the stream of walkers. [yes that was a ref to ‘The Walking Dead’ and in my mind is an appropriate analogy.
4. Do not draw attention to yourself. Blend in as best you can.
5. If you are working in an area like this have someone outside the area monitor communications and alert you to the situation so that you can make informed decisions.
6. Do not depend on your own vehicle nor public transportation as they can and most likely will be shut down or blocked. Plan on walking [or running] to get anywhere OR plan to shelter in place.
7. This would be a good time to pray for your self and loved ones AND the nation.

Riots post election

Riots post election ;[

There are several riots going on around these US of A for the second night after the elections. Sounds like a lot of property damage with several people hurt [at least 2 in ICU]

I realize that half of the country is happy how the elections turned out and the other half is pissed. Either way it is getting needlessly dangerous out there.

I have heard some talk of how the ‘protesters’ are paid to be out there stirring up crap. Is this actually the case? I do not actually know. Some observations though. Most of the “spontaneous protests’ seem too well organized and co-coordinated in my opinion. Regardless of if they are spontaneous or not it is NOT safe for you to be around them.

So what do you do if you find yourself in the middle of this crap? OR better yet how do you prevent yourself from being in the middle of it?

Pay attention to your surroundings, avoid large groups of people, plan out alternate routes of travel AND have plans to be able to camp out at your place of work or with friends until the crowds / trouble disburses.

1. Pay attention to your surroundings – know what is ‘normal’ for where you are, be familiar with the area for the time of day you normally are in the spot. Are the people near you behaving as they normally do or are they agitated? Does anyone appear odd or out of place / does not fit in? If so, report it to the ‘normal’ people there [your co-workers, friends, the boss or security if any. Once you have alerted others either take control of the situation or leave.
2. While you are out and about avoid large groups of people especially if any of them seem agitated or angry.
3. Plan out alternative routes of travel AND escape routes. Always know at least 2 ways to exit any area you find yourself in. look for the normal things like front, back and side doors. Consider also windows as points of egress. Discuss this with others in your party so that everyone will be on the same sheet of music should something not good happen, also discuss and agree on a meeting place should any of you get separated.
4. Have a communication plan before hand with those in your party AND people at home. Most of us have cell phones which seem to grow out of our heads now. Consider use of either CB radios, the FRS type radios or the Beofeng radios that I have reviewed elsewhere in the blog.
5. Have plans to be able to camp out at your place of work or with friends until the crowds / trouble disperses. It is sometimes advisable to just stay somewhere until the storm blows over. Right now we are discussing riots and “peaceful protests” but this also applies to snow storms and other such. If you work in an office type setting consider storing an extra set of clothing, toiletries, a days [or 3] of rations and maybe some bedding in or under your desk – I have been snowed in at work before and it sure is better if you have planned ahead.
6. Listen to the news and or local radio station while at work to be able to know what is going on around town. An off shoot of this is to have a friend or family member who is at home pay attention to the local news and alert you to things. People can take turns on this if you have a group and if need be and the group is large enough there could be 24 hour coverage.
7. Lastly, if there is trouble and you do not HAVE to be out and about, do not be stupid and STAY home..
