BOB question

I got this question recently and here it is…………..

Hey, do you have any recommendations for camp tools like hatchets or Even camp silverware? I’m just looking to make a list for my BOB
1:54PM

spoons are more useful than forks, I like soup spoons best and I put the handle tip [1/4 to 1/2 inch] in a vice and bend it up to form a hook at about 45 degrees [rounded not sharp bend] so that even with gloves on I have full control over it. I like to have one of those 4 in one files [Walmart under $5.00] for wood work and sharpening ax or whatever, The old Gerber folding saw is good or Fiskers, a metal graduated big cup/pot for cooking / water treatment. single walled metal water bottle too… OR consider a real GI canteen with cup and fire stand. scratch graduation marks on the inside so that you can measure stuff that you are cooking. Para cord 20 – 30 MILES ;] of it as you can never have enough. a roofers hatchet/hammer. Vice grips x 2, Fire starting I carry a magnifier glass, Fire piston, ferro rods and Bic or zippo lighter in that order of use normally saving the lighter for last as it is least renewable long term. a good tinder tin or 2 so I can make more char/tinder. iodine or pure Clorox for short term water treatment on the run. FOOD– get the hard plastic ‘lockable’ boxes at Dollar tree each one will hold a bit over 2,000 cal of the peanut butter [or whatever your choice is] crackers and some of the small packs of cookies all at dollar tree x 3 = 3 days of food on the run with no fire needed. After that things may have calmed down enough that you can actually cook some…. make flour out of rice, lentils and several kinds of beans, barley – get some whole wheat flour and corn meal— practice at home with ratios — in your canteen cup add about half water and then some of each flour [think cream of wheat — which has no dairy in it– by the time the water is HOT your meal is cooked.put what ever seasonings in to taste.. 1 or 1/2 L bottles are great for storing each flour until you decide on what you like. This is a soupy Ezekiel bread [Ezekiel 4: 9-11] …… on the side have 6 each 2L Coke bottles full of water = 3 days ration. IF you get to stay in one place for a few days you can fill your empties with clear water and put it in a sunny spot [look up SODIS] for safety I like 2 or 3 days in the full sun. ———-

Hope this helps you get started on the BOB….
