Well it appears that MOST of us survived the Eclipse at the start of the month.
Eclipse 2024 OK folks here is an early posting — The big event will be happening SOON. You MAY still be able to get last minute stuff and top up with fuel. I recall the eclipse in Casper WY 2017 and all the foolishness that happened that day with that large number of people visiting the area[s] We are a couple hundred miles away and we had thousands of extra people here and it was a mess! A couple of hour trip turned into 12-14 hours.
The FAA closed the airspace a bit before the eclipse and it reportedly stayed closed for awhile after and even then FAA only let a few planes leave and get clear maybe every 30 minutes or so. Getting ready for the eclipse. [IF you are near the pathway]
By now you should have topped up your fuel tank in your vehicles. And any extra fuel cans. You may even want to get one of those hand fuel pumps from a big box store. I checked the price today and Wal-Mart had a bunch of them at $11.00 they also had a bunch of red gas cans available.
Walmart also had magna mount CB antenna for $15.88 they had CB radios for about $60.00 each. You can order CBs with side band [SSB] which will use the same antenna listed.
Those FRS/GMRS blister pack walkie talkies are available too. Many radios come with weather alert features.
Between the above radios IF you are just now getting into radios it will get you well on your way to gathering information and to be able to stay in touch with friends and family locally. Your standard AM/FM like you have in your vehicle will help a lot for you to know what is happening locally.
Tomorrow [Friday] will be your last chance before the weekend to get ready for the eclipse.

Getting ready for the eclipse
REPORTEDLY this is the official EMERGENCY check list that has been released in US SCHOOLS and Colleges for the upcoming April 8, 2024 eclipse.
Stocking up and preparation. Nothing stops what is coming.
2 days before the planned events top off your fuel tank in your vehicle!
Fill up your gas cans too [propane and normal fuel for your vehicles]
Pick up groceries for the week and pet food.
Go to your pharmacy and get whatever refills are due.
Get battery powered radio IF you don’t already have one AND batteries for it.
Check you flash lights / batteries
Prepare for phone services to be out
Make sure you have at least a case of water in each vehicle
Have paper maps for the area you are in / are traveling in
The above was sent to me by a friend. She thought that whole “Nothing stops what is coming” comment was funny— ODD not amusing— NOT everything is a Conspiracy nor a theory. It does no good to stir things up aka fear mongering.
Actually this is tame advice which we all should be doing ALL the time anyway. Wednesday or Thursday is a good time of week to tend to such things. I would add to have CASH on hand to cover planned activities for the week too.
Always top off your fuel supply on Wednesday or Thursday as when a bank gets closed by the FDIC it is normally on Thursday NIGHT and typically on the following Monday it will reopen under a new name. what this really means to normal folks is regardless of how much money you have in that bank, you will NOT be able to use it… no cash from the Atm and nobody will accept a check from you drawn on that bank. Go ahead and ask me how I know that :}
Side note a few years ago the path of the eclipse was within 250 miles of us.
AFTER the eclipse when everyone was trying to get home, a trip that normally would take 2 hours to make actually lasted over 14 hours! Most folks would have been better off just STAYING where they were for an extra day to let the crowd thin out. NOTHING actually went wrong, it was just the MASSIVE number of people trying to move at the same time. Folks were crapping on the side of the interstate aka eclipse parking lot.
Tailgate parties were also going on along the side of the interstate because traffic was just NOT moving! Once people made it to the cross roads of 2 interstate highways the traffic thinned out a lot BUT it was still slow going. [this information was collected from personal interviews and talking with people on HAM & CB radios during the event.
An example is anytown USA that has 4th of July fireworks organized. We NEVER go to those as there are just TOO many people there. I have talked with folks who have gone to those events for the ground shows. When the event is over it takes HOURS for all those people to clear out and traffic returns to semi normal. During this time of exodus even law enforcement and EMS have to respond to things on FOOT, as their vehicles could not get though the traffic! We often do ‘battle tracking’ on events such as this as it can sometimes be entertaining.
Point being that even IF everything goes according to plan, when you have hundreds [or even hundreds of thousands in the case of this eclipse] there WILL be delays in travel ect…
You too may be entertained listening to CB radio, FRS/GMRS radios, HAM radio and scanners during any gather of people.

We would be better off IF we ALL paid attention to world events, along with regional and LOCAL. Pay attention to those around you! What is going on? Is anyone acting oddly? Are there any out of place packages?
It comes down to Situational Awareness.
Have a plan!
Discuss with your family/friends where you will meet up when you are out and about. [Evac plan] How will you stay in touch with each other? [COMM plan– Primary, Alternate, Contingency Emergency – PACE for short.] Of course your cell phone will be primary, My family have radios on us while we are out, we have HAM licenses. EDC plan I always have a water bottle with me for example. Basically, IF you have been following us for any length of time… This is nothing different than we have said for YEARS.

I don’t. Also most others don’t either, I bet.
What we DO know is that those that did the attack recently in Israel are monsters. They are evil.
Do they actually have anything planned for the next month or so? Once again, who knows? However regardless of their plans, IF they can alter OUR behavior, they win.
So here are MY plans. We will do what we always do. Every Thursday we top up our vehicle’s fuel tank. We hit the food section and get whatever fresh foods we want for the next several days. We do whatever other errands we need done. Sunday is church. There is no reason to not go.
General plans – everyone DOES need to be alert to their surroundings ALL the time. Be aware where the exits are and the best route back to your vehicle/home. Stay in communication with the rest of your family.
Carry water, cut wood, same as we do every week.
OK, so why is Friday the 13th is unlucky? Well first off it is NOT every Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th of October 1307 is when the POPE ordered that the Knights Templar be arrested. Many of them were arrested, tortured and a lot of them were burned at the stake. Others died in prison. slow roasted turkey
I have used this fashion of roasting turkeys for many years. It consistently produces fall off the bone moist turkey every time AND it is hard to over cook or burn it. ;]
Preplanning the feast. Start a few days ahead of when you plan to have your turkey / meal. How big is your turkey? For this discussion we will say that it weighs 20 pounds and is still in the deep freeze. Do you have a roasting pan that will comfortably hold the turkey? Assemble everything that you need for the meal. Write down everything that you are missing and go buy it.
A day or 2 before the meal bake whatever pies you want. The day before make the bread, I would suggest Ezekiel bread. 22 hours before you plan on sitting down for the meal take the turkey out of the freezer. Dice 2 or 3 large onions and make a bed in the roaster pan for the turkey. Release the turkey from the wrapping while it is still frozen and put it on the bed of onions. Coat the turkey with olive oil apply seasonings which will follow. Add 1 cup of water to the pan. Cover & place into the oven. Set your oven to 200 degrees F [no preheating required] set an alarm for 20 hours from starting the oven. Here is the hard part…. Leave it alone, no peaking!
By taking the bird straight from the freezer and cooking it this way germs do not have time to multiply as the turkey spends very little time in the danger zone of 40 – 140 degrees F.
At the end of the 20 hours [1 hour per pound at 200 degrees F] remove the cover and turn the heat up to 350 degrees to brown your turkey. Carve and serve.
INGREDIENTS FOR THE RUB
• 1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
• 1 tablespoon dried basil leaves
• 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed dried rosemary leaves
• 1 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves
• 1 teaspoon rubbed sage (crumbled between your fingers)
• 2 teaspoons coarse salt
• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

One year the stores had whole turkeys 20 pounds for $5.00— that year we put up [canned] 150 pounds of turkey [after skinning and deboning] .

We have 2 Walmart stores in town AND a distribution center at the edge of town.
5 Doz eggs $18.17 – back in May 2022 they were $7.00 for the same size [but at least we have them. Sam’s Club has them for $20.50.
Lard 8lbs buckets were $8.00 back in May 2022 they went UP to $16.81…this week end they were on CLEARANCE for $8.81 WHY in the world would they be clearing it out?
They are NOT near best by date yet. Well into 2023.
Sugar isle was EMPTY!
We went by the deli section before noon- half the steam table trays were EMPTY… The staff member said they were OUT… not cooking more, but TOTALLY OUT of the items.
Deaths are UP in our area as are general crimes… USED to be when dispatcher ends the call with 1 or 2 other officers to provide cover/back up to the primary officer sent on violent cases…. The last 9-12 months the dispatcher ends with “will get you cover when we can” so the police are super busy and short handed—BOTH city and county. SO far we have not lost any, just a matter of time until one of them gets hurt badly.
A friend just got a new C_pap device after 9 MONTHS since her last one broke. Her health really declined during that time without it.
Wal-mart HAS full shelves of ammo at about double price from last year. They have so much shotgun ammo that it is back out on the shelves in sporting goods. For the last several months they have been OUT and when they did get some in they were gone by the end of the day. They are still limiting 3 boxes per person per day.

at Walmart The lard was restocked and is still on CLEARANCE for $8.81/8lbs. Which is a good thing… it is EASY to can lard for long term storage. IF you can find jars ect… our Walmart does have an OK [but not great] stock of canning supplies including pressure cookers.

IF the shortage was from a contaminated production plant like they said it was this spring they would have had it cleaned up in the first few weeks and been back to making stuff LONG ago!
