Christmas Gifts

Since our children were toddlers we have given them something every Christmas that had to do with prepping. The first thing they received was a small backpack with a sleeping bag. They did not understand much in the beginning, but they learned as they grew up. As they grew they got larger and better sleeping bags and backpacks. One year we all got .22 rifles, that year they learned to shoot. One year they got fire starters and they learned how to start fires. Our daughter could start a fire with flint and steel faster than some of the boy scouts could start one with a match.  They learned prepping skills as they grew up and got their equipment. We, as parents also received prepping equipment for Christmas. As we found new improved products we replaced what we had in our backpacks. Then after Christmas we had an evening that we got our backpacks out and went through them and updated the equipment along with our clothes as our children and we changed sizes. We also have a set of clothes and hiking boots to change into when we have to bug out. They are mostly cotton clothes and layered including a sturdy coat. These are placed near our packs and we do not wear them for anything else. These also were Christmas gifts.

Our daughter is now an adult with children of her own, as we give the grandchildren Christmas gifts they are learning about prepping the same way that their mother did, a little at a time and when they are mentally ready to learn the skill. Sometimes they get upset when they get something that they want to play with or use and have to put it in their backpack, but we just tell them that they can use it when they go camping.
